Admit it. You watched The Notebook and you loved it. If you really loved it, you probably also read the book, written by Nicholas Sparks. Well, you're in luck because now One Tree Hill's Bethany Joy Galeotti is turning the popular book into a musical. Get ready to sing along!
Books turned movies turned musicals can either be a really awesome or really horrible. The Notebook as a musical has total potential, though. That's exactly what Bethany said too: "I thought, 'This is either going to be terrible, or it's going to be great. I don't know which it's going to be, but I've gotta get this out.' It's an amazing story, an American classic, that [I] wanted to do something original with."
How did Bethany even come up with the idea? Well, she saw the movie and then read the book and then found herself singing songs based on the story's characters as she hung out around her house. So, she finally decided to start writing the songs down.
Bethany started working with record producer Ron Aniello and eventually they workshopped the musical in front of Broadway producers and investors. And they liked it! According to Bethany, "[The producers] all said the music was amazing - 'Don't touch it, we love the music' - which is just so, so encouraging for Ron and I because we worked really hard on that music. And everybody loved the dialogue, and they thought the story was well-crafted."
OK, so that makes me think that this is going to be really, really good! Next, Bethany and Ron have to talk to Broadway producers and probably do a reading in New York City, followed by lots of rewriting. And with any luck, we'll be able to catch The Notebook: The Musical on Broadway some day soon. Do you think they'll get someone as good looking as Ryan Gosling to star in it?
