Earlier today (June 26, 2011), Bethany Joy Gaelotti, TV mom Haley James Scott on One Tree Hill, tweeted that she had just received the script for season 9, episode 1 and provided a photo of the script. Considering that the series had completed season 8 without any cliffhangers and had left things in such a way that fans of the show wouldn’t be left feeling like they were robbed of a solid series end should the show not get renewed; getting a ninth season is a more than pleasant surprise.

Gaelotti’s tweet was also confirmed by the CW website that One Tree Hill would return in Spring 2012 for a ninth and final season.

How we left things in season 8:

  • Haley and Brooke (Sophia Bush) reopened Karen’s café.
  • The Scott family expanded to include baby Lydia, Nathan was embarking on the new adventure of becoming a sports agent, and Jamie was becoming more and more independent.
  • After believing she would never have children of her own, Brooke and Julian (Austin Nichols) had twin boys and despite the scare of premature birth, both came through healthy.
  • Millicent and Mouth began a morning show together.
  • Season 8 ended with a feeling of coming full circle, with a nod to the show's start and history, as Jamie seemed to be stepping into Lucas' absent shoes. Scott’s Body Shop hoodie, basketball, and bridge included.
  • Watch the season 8 finale

Looking forward to season 9:

  • According to the CW website, we’ll be making another four year leap into the future at the return of season 9. Remember we made another four year jump at the start of the fifth season after the gang graduated high school.
  • Season 8 ended with a content and happy Brooke and Julian, but how will they cope with juggling raising twins while also developing their careers?
  • Will wedding bells be in the air this season for either Millie and Mouth or Clay and Quinn?
  • Making a four year jump in the future, will we lose Jackson Brundage as Jamie Scott? Hopefully they’ll be able to make that work – it just wouldn’t be the same without him.
  • How will the Scotts balance Nathan’s busy schedule with the café and two growing kids? Can’t wait to see Lydia at 4 years old.

One Tree Hill has traveled an incredible journey over the past eight years – many of us have grown up right along with this group. After the exit of Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) many said the show couldn’t go on – they were wrong. Even though the absence of these beloved characters has been felt since they left the show in 2009, the show has indeed gone on and it went on splendidly with the addition of new cast members such as Robert Buckley as Clay, Shantel Van Santen as Quinn, Lisa Goldstein as Millicent Huxtable, and of course, Austin Nichols as Julian.

What storylines are you most looking forward to in this ninth and final season?
