ELIZABETH HARNOIS TO JOIN 'CSI' AS REGULAR

---

Elizabeth Harnois
Via Deadline -- Elisabeth Harnois, who co-starred on CBS' Miami Trauma, will be joining the cast of another CBS/Jerry Bruckheimer drama as a regular, the mothership CSI series. She was originally signed to guest star in the May 5 episode as the estranged daughter of Conrad Ecklie (Marc Vann), who works for the Los Angeles Police Department and helps the Las Vegas crew hunt down serial killer Nate Haskell (Bill Irwin). The guest stint grew into a bigger role on the show. She was expected to return for more episodes and has now been upgraded to a full-blown regular status on the show. Veteran CSI, now in its 11th season, has not been officially renewed for next season, but that is considered a foregone conclusion. Harnois, whose series credits also include Point Pleasant, Dirt and One Tree Hill, recently starred in the Disney movie Mars Needs Moms and will next be seen in Riddle opposite Val Kilmer. She's with WME and Schachter Entertainment.

EW: The CW gets a new president: Dawn Ostroff to be replaced by Mark Pedowitz

---

It’s official: The CW’s entertainment president since its inception, Dawn Ostroff, will step down next month and will be replaced by former ABC Studios chief Mark Pedowitz, who helped develop hits like Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Scrubs, Army Wives, Ghost Whisperer and Criminal Minds.

The CW launched five years ago after The WB and UPN merged and has struggled to gain ratings traction at a time when broadcast in general has slipped. Though shows like Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries have broken through, most of the network’s top draws are aging hits that The CW inherited — like Smallville, One Tree Hill and America’s Next Top Model. Meanwhile, cable rivals going after the network’s young female viewers, like MTV and ABC Family, have proven formidable competitors, with shows like Secret Life of the American Teenager, Jersey Shore, and Teen Mom pulling serious numbers.

The network has seemed to have a tough time figuring itself out — is it the female soap network? The supernatural genre network? And then there’s Top Model, its only reality hit. Its target demo clearly loves reality shows — just look at MTV — but the network has never found another show that it was able to successfully pair with Top Model on Wednesday nights.

Next fall’s crop of CW pilots are already being shot, so turning around The CW might take awhile, even if Pedowitz hits the ground running…

HollyWood Life: Kate Voegele Reveals What Inspired Her New Album ‘Gravity Happens’ & What’s Next For Mia On ‘One Tree Hill!’

---

The gorgeous singer-songwriter shares the experiences that shaped her upcoming album… which is going to be amazing.

Kate Voegele‘s third studio album, Gravity Happens, has been a work-in-progress for just about a year now, and the One Tree Hill star can’t wait for fans to get a taste of her new sound. “A lot of things changed in my life this year,” Kate tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively, one of which was her permanent move from Ohio to Los Angeles. “The music is definitely along the same lines of what I’ve done before, but it’s a little more raw and honest and rough around the edges.”

I had the pleasure of seeing Kate perform some of her new tracks live April 25 at the Loews Regency Hotel in NYC — and trust me, you’re going to love Gravity Happens. Between songs like “Sand Castles,” which echoes the frustration young adults face as they abandon their child-like views, to the absolutely beautiful title track, fans will really feel the emotional upheaval of Kate’s experiences over the past year.

And there are many.

One of those experiences was a trip to Nicaragua, where she spent time with families living in a trash dump community. “I don’t speak any Spanish, but the whole thing really rocked me,” she says. “It was all these people who literally live off the trash. It’s pretty intense to see little kids going through a garbage looking for meat for their families — but they were still so happy. It was a whole different level of things I’ve never seen.”

And here’s some good news for Tree Hill fans: Not only will Mia will be back for the May 18 season finale, but she’ll also be performing one of her new songs, “Heart in Chains!”

“Fans will see Mia’s life has changed for the better,” Kate tells us. “She left because her priorities were out of whack, she wasn’t focusing on her music, and she was tired of fighting with Alex. … She and Alex are cool now.”

Hollywood Life: Andy Says: 5 Reasons Why ‘One Tree Hill’ Needs A Ninth Season! Do You Agree?

---

The show hasn’t been picked up for the fall 2011 season yet. Do you think it deserves a last-minute renewal?

Many CW viewers breathed a sigh of relief April 26 when the network announced the renewal of five hit series — but the news wasn’t quite as hopeful for One Tree Hill fans, whose favorite show remains very much on the bubble. As a longtime fan myself, I have to say I’d be pretty bummed if these next three episodes also turn out to be the last. I’m not ready to say goodbye to the group of madcap southerners who taught me so much about life. And actually made me care about basketball.

1. The cast wants to do it.

It’s not every day you get actors wanting to stick with a series into its ninth year, which I think is a true testament to what a great show One Tree Hill is, and how much the cast enjoys working together. Sophia Bush, Bethany Joy Galeotti, Austin Nichols, Robert Buckley, Stephen Colletti and Lisa Goldstein have all signed on for a potential ninth season, with James Lafferty reportedly interested in returning at least part-time.

2. The fans deserve a ‘final season.’

Much like Smallville fans have been savoring every second of the show’s admitted “final season,” One Tree Hill fans deserve the same experience. There are a ton of story lines to wrap up, and unless the writers know ahead of time that the series is ending, there will be a ton of loose ends left… well, loose.

3. The characters’ stories aren’t finished!

The denizens of Tree Hill, N.C., have been through a lot over the past eight years. We’ve watched them long for their dreams, achieve their dreams, and ultimately… lose their dreams. Do we seriously want the series to end on such a low note? Let’s see Nathan’s back heal enough for him to shoot some hoops again. Let’s see Brooke regain her clothing empire (which it looks like she’s finally starting to.) Heck, I’m even interested in seeing Mouth (Lee Norris) get back in the newsroom!

4. Lucas & Peyton might actually come back… seriously this time!

While I’m sure the current regulars hate hearing about it, the fans really want to see Lucas (Chad Murray) and Peyton (Hilarie Burton) make one last trip to Tree Hill before the series ends. And Chad recently broke his silence about the possibility, tweeting: “Return to oth? I don’t know. Maybe next season for u guys.”

5. Do you really want Glee‘s Brittany to die so young?

One of my favorite lines ever spoken on Glee — not that there are many — was when sexually-confused cheerleader Brittany (Heather Morris) said she didn’t want to die “before One Tree Hill gets canceled.” Doesn’t she deserve at least a few more precious months on this earth?

Show your support for OTH by signing this petition for a ninth season!

Zap2it: ‘One Tree Hill’s James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti leave their comfort zone with ‘Wild Life’

---

One Tree Hill’s” eighth season wrapped in March, series regulars James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti decided to forgo the typical poolside party destination in favor of a whole different kind of vacation.

Along with Lafferty’s brother, Stuart Lafferty (who die-hard “OTH” fans will recognize from a Season 2 guest appearance) and nature photographer Ian Shive, the costars took a no-frills trip through Florida’s National Parks to explore some of nature’s hidden gems.

They filmed their adventure as a pilot presentation for “Wild Life: A New Generation of Wild.” The fifteen-minute presentation is available online and we’d highly recommend checking it out — you’ll see the four friends meet manatees, navigate alligator-infested rivers, and even visit a sunken statue of Jesus at the bottom of a river in the John Pennekamp State Park.

It’s an idea that they’ve been kicking around for quite a while.

“James and I and his little brother Stuart had always wanted to put together a travel documentary, and we were actually pitching it around a couple years ago,” Colletti tells Zap2it. “We wanted to do a European travel vacation show and gear it toward college kids on a budget and a time limit, and find secret spots, hidden gems in Europe that people would want to check out.”

Unfortunately, the execs they met with were interested in taking the show in a different direction that was all too familiar to Colletti, having had his high school personal life aired for the world to see on MTV’s reality drama “Laguna Beach.”

“We found that people were interested in a reality TV aspect that we didn’t want. It was too personal, too much of partying and whatnot,” he says. “They would run with those ideas and it kind of freaked us out. We wanted to feature the surroundings and feature the travels themselves, in a more respectable sense, so it didn’t work out. With work, it kind of fizzled for a while.”

When they began working with Shive, their excitement about the project was reinvigorated. Lafferty tells us that retreating into nature was just what he’d needed after 10 months of working on “One Tree Hill” in Wilmington.

Hollywood Life: ‘One Tree Hill’ Star Stephen Colletti Confirms He’d Be Back For A Ninth Season!

Plus, find out what’s in store for Chase, Mia and Alex in the coming weeks!

We may not yet know whether or not One Tree Hill will be back for a ninth season in the fall — but we do know we’ll be seeing a whole lotta Stephen Colletti if it does! “It’s in my contract to do another season,” he tells HollywoodLife.com. “I’m in. I’m forced to. … No, I’d be excited.”

And it sounds like Chase’s love triangle with Alex (Jana Kramer) and Mia (Kate Voegele) is still very much in tact this season, even though it seemed pretty clear at Brooke (Sophia Bush) and Julian’s (Austin Nichols) wedding reception that he’d chosen Mia.

“Chase is just having a whirlwind with this love triangle,” Stephen tells us. “He’s not that kind of guy. He’s not someone who’s a player. He’s trying to figure out which way to go. You’ll see in the next few weeks, he takes a step back. There will be a resolution. There will be some settling down.”

E!: Kate Voegele Spills on Her New Album and One Tree Hill’s Possible Series Finale

---

Kate Voegele is certainly no one-trick pony. Not only is she an ĂĽber-talented singer/songwriter, but she’s been a staple on the CW’s One Tree Hill since season five. Juggling her music career and acting on such a fan-favorite show hasn’t been easy, but Kate told us that it’s all part of the process.

And that process has led to her third album, Gravity Happens, which drops on the same day as the One Tree Hill season-eight finale: May 17. Kate talks to us about the new album and OTH’s season-ender, plus we have an exclusive track from Gravity Happens for all you fans who need to feed your ear brains:

After two studio albums, Kate says she went on a “little journey” to find inspiration for her new album, including finding the title. “I know who I am as an artist and I know what my sound is, but I wanted to know what I could do in order to take it to that next level,” she tells us. “So the experiences I had last year of moving to California and traveling to places like Rome and Nicaragua where I met a lot of people just had a really big impact in my life. Gravity Happens came from all of those influences and the song that the album is named for is about how stuff just happens and that it’s out of our control and we all learn that as we get older.”

TVLine: One Tree Hill Exclusive: Bethany Joy Galeotti Signs On for Season 9

---

TVLine has learned exclusively that Bethany Joy Galeotti has officially signed on for a ninth season of The CW’s One Tree Hill.

Although Tree Hill has yet to be renewed, the fact that Galeotti has reupped her contract for another season bodes well for the long-running drama’s future.

Meanwhile, the series’ leading man, James Lafferty, has yet to sign on for another year, but a source close to the situation tells TVLine that should Tree Hill get a pickup, he’d likely return part-time as Nathan.

Also on board for another (potential) cycle: Sophia Bush tweeted Monday night that she and costars Austin Nichols, Robert Buckley, Lisa Goldstein and Jana Kramer have each inked additional one-year deals in hopes of a Season 9, saying, “The writers have GREAT plans!”

Plans that perhaps will benefit from a much wanted encore…? Series alum Chad Michael Murray teased the Twitterverse on Monday with: “Return to OTH? I don’t know. Maybe next season for u guys. I Love that Lucas is missed. Give [series creator] Mark Schwann the credit. He built him.”

TVGuide: One Tree Hill’s James Lafferty on Possible Cancellation: “At Some Point, You’ve Got to Graduate”

---

After eight seasons on One Tree Hill, star James Lafferty knows it’s time to move on.

“I feel like I’ve really grown up in Wilmington, [N.C.], but I certainly can’t stay there forever. It’s like leaving your parents’ house: It’s got to happen at some point, you’ve got to graduate,” he says.

One Tree Hill’s Nichols on his directorial debut: Fans are going to love the flashbacks

The transformation of Nathan Scott (Lafferty) from unapologetic jerk to devoted husband and father started with his unexpected relationship with “tutor girl” Haley James (Bethany Joy Galeotti). But it wasn’t without its hiccups, which Lafferty says are among his favorite episodes. “When we came back in Season 5, four years later in the characters’ lives …. it was an exciting atmosphere not really knowing where my character would go, because he was in such a dark place, and [we didn't know] how the family unit was going to stay together,” he says.

25 bubble shows — which will survive?

Although Tree Hill is known for throwing curve balls at even its strongest couples, Lafferty says Nathan and Haley will weather the remainder of the season. “The audience shouldn’t have any doubt that Nathan and Haley are going to [parent] the right way again,” he says. “They did it as such a young age with Jamie and learned a lot.” While Haley is at home caring for Lydia, Nathan will investigate the hit-and-run accident that almost killed Brooke and Jamie earlier in the season. “Nathan will definitely want to get to the bottom of it and will recruit the help of his friends as well,” he says. “Julian feels like he almost lost Brooke that night and Clay will feel a certain professional obligation … it’s going to be messy, for sure, but they’re going to have to pursue more information.”

One Tree Hill will have another time jump in season finale

With only four episodes remaining in the season, and no word on a renewal, Lafferty says the cast has approached the season finale with the understanding that it may in fact be the series finale. He also thinks that fans will be happy with the ending. “As the actors who have portrayed these characters for so long, this is the way that we always saw it coming together,” he says. “The fans will get what they want.”

One Tree Hill airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on the CW.

StarNews: Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols ready for “One Tree Hill” season 9. Is The CW?

---

Good news for fans of the locally filmed TV series “One Tree Hill” who want a ninth season!

Stars Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols tweeted early this morning that they each had signed on for a ninth season of “One Tree Hill,” if there is one.

@SophiaBush: “Well faithful followers … I am officially in for ONE last year of OTH. The writers have GREAT plans! Now all we need is a CW pick up! .”

They also confirmed that Rob Buckley, Jana Kramer and Lisa Goldstein are locked in as well.

That still leaves question marks for James Lafferty, new mom Bethany Joy Galeotti, Shantel Van Santen, Stephen Colletti and Lee Norris. (According to Zap2It, Jackson Brundage’s contract logically depends on whether his TV parents, Lafferty and/or Galeotti, return.)

Now, of course, none of this means the show is definitely coming back. But ratings seem OK, and local crew members seem upbeat.

The big question: Would you watch the show if only the cast members above returned?

PS: I hope the show does get to go out with some closure, and if it does come back I’d like it to be definitively the last year. But I don’t put much stock in the factthat Bush and Nichols both said that they only signed on for ONE more year. For the past few seasons one cast member or another has said that they or the show was done after that season. And every year the show (and most of those actors) came back. I’m sure they plan for next season to be their last. But would they have said last April that would be upping for a ninth season right now? You never know what’s going to happen in Tree Hill.

Zap2it: ‘One Tree Hill’s’ James Lafferty talks Season 9, Naley, and his ‘mortifying’ musical moment

---

Confession: We still love “One Tree Hill.”

Sure, after 8 years, it’s not exactly cool to still find ourselves glued to our TV screens to watch Nathan, Haley, and Brooke navigate their mid-20s… but we’re there anyway. We cried when Brooke got married. We got choked up with nostalgia when Nathan flashbacked to his first kiss. We felt a wild and weird array of emotions when Chad Michael Murray tweeted, “Return to oth? I don’t know. Maybe next season for u guys. I Love that Lucas is missed.”

And yes – we may have gotten a little bit crushed-out while we chatted with James Lafferty last week. (Shut up. When we were 16, “One Tree Hill” was the only thing that filled the “Dawson’s Creek” shaped void in our lives.)

Lafferty’s character, Nathan, is currently balancing his family life (and Baby #2) with a new career… and a shocking discovery. Just before learning that his wife was in labor, Nathan discovered the car that was involved in the hit-and-run accident that nearly killed his son and his wife’s best friend… in his professor’s garage. Professor Kellerman and the car crash will take center stage in upcoming episodes.

We discussed the car crash plot, Nathan and Haley’s relationship, and the possibility of returning for Season 9 with Lafferty. Read on!

One Tree Hill Finale Talk with James Lafferty

Although The CW series One Tree Hill has seen cast members come and go over the years, actor James Lafferty has been a staple on OTH since the first season in the role of Nathan Scott. After playing Nathan on One Tree Hill for eight seasons, James Lafferty may soon say goodbye to Nathan for good if OTH closes its story doors for good on May 17. Since playing Nathan Scott, James Lafferty has not only grown up on the set of One Tree Hill but Lafferty has also matured as a person and actor due to the success of OTH, which has left a last impression on a wide range of teens over the past eight years. As a result of the popularity of One Tree Hill, James Lafferty has also left a memorable mark in the minds of fans as Nathan has grown into a man.

As The CW readies for the finale of One Tree Hill, with a ninth season still up in the air, TheDeadbolt caught up with James Lafferty to get the OTH scoop on what's to come for Nathan, his take on the relationship between Nathan and Haley (played by Bethany Joy Galeotti), what fans can expect in the last few episodes, and how Lafferty views the evolution of Nathan Scott amid speculation that One Tree Hill will wind down for good after eight seasons.

THE DEADBOLT: From a personal standpoint, where do you want Nathan and Haley to eventually wind up?

JAMES LAFFERTY: Naturally, after playing the relationship for so long, I think it would be great if they end up together. The majority of scenes that Joy [Galeotti] and I have done on the show have been playing Nathan and Haley either in a relationship or patching up their relationship. I feel that’s not only a lot of work for the characters, but that’s plenty of work for us as actors. So the most rewarding thing would be to have the characters stick together.

THE DEADBOLT: Given how loyal fans have been over the years, how much input have you had this season on where Nathan should be at the end of the series?

LAFFERTY: The fans have a huge influence on where the characters end up and what they do. In terms of the pay off, in terms of the alternate destination of the characters, I think Mark [Schwahn] has always been mindful of that. He’s always been mindful of how dedicated the fans are to our show and how they really have kept us alive, that core audience has stuck around and kept us on the air for eight seasons. So it’s only natural that Mark wants to eventually give them what they want but throw them a few curveballs along the way.

THE DEADBOLT: When you first heard that Nathan wouldn’t be playing basketball, how did you handle that as an actor? Was it hard to pivot in another direction?

LAFFERTY: It wasn’t that difficult to go in a different direction. It felt like the direction Nathan went was natural and it made sense. But it was hard to see basketball itself leave the show. I’ve always felt like basketball was really the heart and soul of the show for so long. Now that it has more or less departed, it was just kind of tough. It’s always been a big part of my life and it’s always been a big part of the show. So I was sad to see it go just like I’m sure Nathan was sad to see it go.

THE DEADBOLT: Can you talk about how things will progress in the remaining episodes as far as some of what the fans want to see?

LAFFERTY: Well, I think that we’ve approached these final episodes of Season 8 as they could be the final episodes of the show. Over the years, there have been a few years where we’ve had major cliffhangers and things like that. But this is one of those years where we really felt like if it was going to be the last season of the show, it was going to be time to give the audience what they’ve been waiting for. So I think they’re going to be seeing more and more of that in the coming episodes, a lot of the pay offs of the characters that they’ve been hoping to see over the years.

THE DEADBOLT: Has there been talk of anyone returning for the finale?

LAFFERTY: No, not really. I think we’re going to see a few familiar faces in the finale that you might not have seen before. At least one in the coming episodes that you haven’t seen in a while. But in terms of Lucas returning, or Peyton returning, I wouldn’t want to give the fans hope that they might come back because we’re not going to be seeing them in the final four episodes.

THE DEADBOLT: What’s it like for you to look at where Nathan is now as compared to Season 1?

LAFFERTY: It’s pretty astounding actually. I never would’ve thought when I read that first script that the character would end up here. Also, I think that if I was a new actor coming in to play this role and I got the last script of Season 8 of One Tree Hill, I would’ve never thought that Season 1 Nathan was where this guy came from. But it’s great and it’s been amazing to play that journey and to play that role. I wouldn’t want to play any other role on the show but Nathan just because of what he’s gone through and how much he’s learned. It’s a constant learning experience for him and it’s really been fun to play that. I learned a lot as an actor.

MTV: It’s Earth Day! Which Green Hottie Would You Like To Hug A Tree With?

---

As we celebrate Earth Day (don’t forget to do your part to keep your carbon footprint low—be it recycling, changing your light bulbs or becoming involved with massive environmental efforts), we couldn’t help but think of some of our favorite celebs who give extra TLC to Mother Nature year round.

With so many sexy, Earth-conscience celebs to choose from (Hollywood definitely likes to lend a helping hand) we want to know which eco-friendly heartthrob you would most like to hug a tree (or drive around in a Prius) with this Earth Day. Get all the deets on the candidates and cast your vote after the jump!

As if we couldn’t love “The Adjustment Bureau” star Matt Damon enough (he’s a sexy Oscar-winning actor and a devoted dad and husband), he went and launched Water.org, an organization devoted to making clean drinking water. The activist is not only making the movies, but the entire world, a better place.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been making us swoon since 1997 when he starred in “Titanic,” but what really makes our hearts beat for him are the things he does off-screen. A devoted environmentalist, Leo has done so much for the Earth, including raising awareness through his documentary “The 11th Hour,” to donating $1 million to the WCS to help save endangered tigers.

Adrian Grenier may be best known for his work on the small screen in “Entourage,” but he’s doing a big part for the planet. In addition cruising around Hollywood in a fuel-efficient Prius, the star launched his own show on Planet Green called “Alter Eco,” in which he helped viewers find ways to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

Thanks to his “One Tree Hill” co-star Sophia Bush, actor Austin Nichols has become involved in many environmental causes. In addition to getting the set of their television show to go green, Austin and Sophia went down to the Gulf coast after the disastrous oil spill to survey the damage and do their part to help.

How much does Ian Somerhalder love our planet and want to see the best for it? Well, like Matt, the “Vampire Diaries” stud has created his own organization—the Ian Somerhalder Foundation—whose mission is to “empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures.” Ian’s foundation focuses on energy, habitat and animals, how they are being harmed, and what can be done to change it.

Now that you have the skinny, who’s your favorite environmental cutie?

Just Jared: Jana Kramer’s ‘Whiskey’ Song Premiere – EXCLUSIVE

---

Jana Kramer will be premiering a new song called “Whiskey” on The CW’s One Tree Hill during Tuesday’s episode (April 26).

This is her second performance on the show! Her first song was “I Won’t Give Up,” which she co-wrote.

Jana tells JustJared.com, “On the show, Quinn (Shantel VanSanten) asks Alex (Kramer) to perform a song at Club Trick and ‘Whiskey’ seemed like such a good fit for this particular episode because the characters are all facing different areas of losses and finding ways to deal with the pain. One of the things I love about the song ‘Whiskey’ is that it’s something everyone can relate to because we’ve all had moments in our life that we wish we could take back.”

Below, listen to “Whiskey,” which will be available at all digital retailers beginning next week after OTH airs. We love the song, especially the chorus!

Marie Claire: Sophia Bush Interview – Video of Sophia Bush Interview

Sophia Bush is one of my favorite actresses. One reason? She read a story in Marie Claire’s February issue about imprisoned Afghan women that inspired her to take her own trip to Afghanistan to learn more. But before that, she decided to make a pit stop at our office and dish about her favorite artists, the one book she feels is a must-read for all women, and so much more.

Still want more? Sophia will be blogging from Afghanistan exclusively for Marie Claire, and we can hardly wait to read all about her journey.

'Wild Life': The National Geographic Version of “Entourage”

---

'Wild Life'
Experience American wilderness with Stephen Colletti, James and Stuart Lafferty and Ian Shive.
(Credit: Ian Shive)
When you remove three Hollywood actors from their natural habitat and plant them in the middle of nowhere with a couple of backpacks and one nature photographer, some might think you have the ingredients for another exploitative reality-competition show during which narcissistic confessions are made, brawls break out and a sore loser is sent home at the end of every episode.

That is not the case with “Wild Life,” a fascinating new docuseries making its debut across the Interwebs this week. Actors Stephen Colletti, James Lafferty and Stuart Lafferty have teamed up with documentarian photographer and author Ian Shive (National Parks 2.0) to invite today’s ever-tweeting generation to drop the smartphones and experience the adventure that awaits in their own backyard – the American wilderness. Think of it as the National Geographic version of “Entourage.”

That said, it was somewhat fitting to rendezvous at the TreePeople Center for Community Forestry in Los Angeles’ beautiful Coldwater Canyon Park for a chat with these guys after their return from the Florida Everglades. Upon grabbing a space in the environmentally friendly “parking grove” (in my Prius, natch), we found a spot in the shade to discuss what it was like to go swimming with manatees, get up close and personal with a few alligators and perfect the art of building a campfire.

“We always talked about doing a show like this,” says the scruffy-faced Colletti. Reality junkies may remember him simply as Stephen from MTV’s original reality juggernaut, “Laguna Beach.”

In fact, when the idea started to be pitched around town, outsiders saw the concept in a totally different way.

“People wanted to turn it into [us] going out at night,” says Colletti. “They wanted to get everyone partying and take it down that [clichĂ©d] reality route … and that’s not something we wanted to do. We always wanted to put on a travel show that’s, in a more respectable sense, documenting your travels, where you’re at, your landscape, your environment.”

Stuart Lafferty saw a void in the reality spectrum he thought they could fill.

“I don’t really see that many shows on television that really capture young audiences,” he says. “I haven’t seen travel shows that go after that demographic … Young people want to watch other young people travel and see what happens to them.”

And if they happen to pick up some cool facts about the natural wonders of these great United States, even better.

Shive, Colletti, and both Lafferty brothers all learned a few things during their adventures together. Colletti realized how technology dependent he and his peers actually are.

“It’s hard for people to detach themselves and actually get out in the world without a cell phone for three or four days,” he notes.

During their trip to the Florida marshlands, they endured a 36-hour period in which they were completely cut off from the world. James Lafferty saw it as a much-needed wake-up call. One of the things he discovered that he takes for granted? Taking showers.

“You learn to take care of yourself a little bit better,” he says during our phone conversation. “We have so many creature comforts available to us … but when you’re out there in the wild, your health is the most important thing.”

Part of those 36 hours also included navigating the narrow, alligator-infested channels of the Florida marshlands in canoes and using a map that wasn’t drawn to scale.

“We were five miles out in the middle of nowhere,” Colletti remembers.

Putting their isolation in perspective, Shive says, “The people who were closest to us were the people flying overhead in an airplane. That’s how far out we were.”

When asked if spending so much time with each other tested any nerves, James says there was never any dude vs. dude conflicts: “With a trip like this, you forget the bond that can be formed when you must rely on each other without anything around you. It’s such a great feeling, being surrounded by people you trust and love.”

Using social media and the Internet, these guys are now hoping to capture an audience and inspire a new generation of adventure travelers. Shive would like to see more people develop a humbled curiosity for the great outdoors.

“The outdoors have been so over-sensationalized with Man versus Nature scenarios,” he says. “I think there’s this fear of going outside for a lot of people … and it’s not like that at all.”

EW: ‘One Tree Hill’ scoop: Big twist will cause return of ‘old Nathan,’ says James Lafferty

---

Ish is about to hit the fan, Hill fans, and trust me when I say you want to be around to see it happen.

Back in March, before One Tree Hill took a six-week break, from which it returned last night, we found out that Professor Kellerman’s young son — and now Nathan’s young star talent — was involved in the crash that nearly claimed the life of Nathan’s son. And even though last night’s ep focused on a lot of baby drama, Nathan’s work has only begun.

“I think Nathan’s gotten himself into something here,” says Lafferty. “I think he feels like he has to do some detective work. Whether or not he should be taking it upon himself remains to be seen. He definitely is going to pursue the truth, and I think it’s possible he will bite off more than he can chew.”

And a warning to the Kellermans… and anyone else involved: Nathan’s ready for a fight.

“It’s definitely possible that a little bit of the old Nathan could come out. Nathan’s been known to lose his temper,” Lafferty teases. “At the same time, he’s also learned a lot. I think fans can definitely expect some sort of confrontation, but with who and how will definitely be a bit of a surprise for them.”

Zap2it: ‘One Tree Hill’: Season 8 finale ending remains undecided, says EP

---

One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn rarely shies away from a cliffhanger season finale, even when the fate of his show remains uncertain. Season finales in Tree Hill have involved gunshots, car crashes, heart attacks, fires — they’ve run the gamut when it comes to giving viewers a harrowing summer hiatus.

This year, the question of whether “One Tree Hill” will return in the fall for another season is more precarious than ever. The show’s ratings are definitely low, but they’ve remained steady even with stiff competition.

“We have such a rabid fan base that we’re pretty easy to slot against something like ‘Glee,’” Schwahn tells Zap2it. “Somebody’s got to go against them, and on a show that cares about a female demo just like they do, someone’s got to be the sacrificial lamb. We’re a pretty good bet because we’ve gone against the biggest of the bigs. We’ve been thrown against ‘American Idol,’ we go against ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ ‘House,’ all the big ones. We have a pretty loyal fan base and we cater to them. While it’s not a great number, we’re that show that you can put against those behemoths and we’ll make a pretty good accounting.”

Though he’s feeling good about the possibility of Season 9, when Schwahn sat down to write the Season 8 finale, he considered the possibility that it may also serve as a series finale. So the question is: will there be a cliffhanger, or closure for our favorite characters?

“I hate to say this, but it’s always this way: We’re looking at both,” he says. “I’ve gotten used to not knowing, so usually I will script a finale that’s very satisfying in my mind to a series finale, which is what I did. At the same time, we shot some cliffhangers.”

Schwahn notes that no decision has been made yet as to whether or not to use the cliffhanger ending or the wrap-up ending, but he’s leaning heavily toward giving the fans and the characters some closure this year.

“If you had to ask me right now, I’d say that we’re going to see closure, and if it’s the series finale, in my mind, it’s very satisfying,” he says. “If it’s not the series finale, we can introduce the cliffhangers that we shot, but in next year’s premiere.”

The season finale will begin with a voice over quote from a novel, similar to the way that the show often began in its early days. “It’s a voiceover from a novel that I love, and the author allowed us to use it,” Schwahn says. The cliffhangers that he wrote in case of an early season pickup don’t necessarily fit with the theme that the quote establishes.

“I felt like the cliffhangers fought my intention when I wrote the script and what I meant for the episode to me. I like them but we can revisit them next year. At the end of the day, you always sort of bet on the best creative decision, and go that direction, as opposed to trying to leverage our network with cliffhangers or shock our audience. If we shock our audience, it should be with our strongest moment, and right now I feel like the strongest moment of that episode involves some closure.”

8.18 Quiet Little Voices Quotes

---

Brooke: Hi, we’re having a baby.
Nurse: Honey, you do understand it takes about nine months?

Haley: Oh, I can’t believe you’re gonna have a little sister. She’s gonna need you to watch out for her and protect her. Do you know, by the time she’s your age, you’re gonna be in high school.
Jamie: And when you and dad were in high school, you had me.
Haley: That’s right… You’re not allowed to do that.

Brooke: I just don’t want to steal Haley’s thunder today. Especially for Jamie. If we have news first then we can tell them.
Julian: That’s very sweet of you, baby. But are we really getting snacks because I was kind of excited about that part too.

Haley: I’m a little panicked, can you tell me a story?
Nathan: Uh, story. Got it. What kind of story?
Haley: A story, any story.
Nathan: Alright. Um. Uh, I got nothing.
Haley: In the history of the world, any story that’s ever been told.
Nathan: Okay, I’m sorry. All I can think of is the Three Little Pigs… I don’t know why the Three Little Pigs, I have no idea.

Nathan: Okay, how about this, did I ever tell you the story about the high school clown-
Haley: Don’t say clown!
Nathan: I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Jerk. The high school jerk who fell for the beautiful, sarcastic girl who hated clowns.

Nathan: And they fell in love. And they have a son. And soon…
Haley: They’ll have a daughter.
Nathan: And they all live happily ever after. I promise.

Jamie: I think it’s cool how people celebrate the day you’re born. Like for the rest of your life they have cake and presents and they celebrate that you’re here. There’s something really nice about that. Even when your Aunt Quinn stuffs your face in a cake.

Nathan: (Flashback) When I saw you, I promised myself that if I could just get up, I’d walk straight over to you and I’d tell you how much I need you, how much I want you. Nothing else matters.

Nathan: You know, when your mom got hurt before you were born, I sat here and prayed that she’d be okay. And you too.
Jamie: Did you cry?
Nathan: Yeah, I cried.

Eric: Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of us.

Brooke: We need a name! Our baby’s gonna be born without a name.
Julian: Oops! My dad once told me about this baseball player named U.L. Washington and the “U.L.” stood for unlisted.
Brooke: We are not naming our baby “Unlisted”.

Quinn: Hey Brooke, name the people that Haley has slapped, Jamie wants to know.
Brooke: Well, let’s see, there’s Rachel, Renee and Nanny Carrie.

Haley: 353,015. That’s how many babies were born today. And this one is mine. Every child comes with the message that God is not yet discouraged of us.

Ausiello repeat some spoilers:

The show will be revisiting Wagoneer-gate in a big way next week when Nate and Julian confront Professor Kellerman about that whole hit-and-run ugliness. “They’re going to set their sites on Kellerman, and whether or not he’s repentant or remorseful or combative is the dance we’re going to do,” teases exec producer Mark Schwahn. “Julian and Nathan almost lost the ones they love in that accident, and it’s fun to watch them be angry again. Julian has been so romantic and supportive, and so stable in Brooke’s life, and it’s nice that he gets to raise his voice and be angry and aggressive.” In other OTH news, it’s James Lafferty gone Wild!
