When Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton left “One Tree Hill” at the end of last season, fans seemed to be divided about what to think.
During filming in downtown Wilmington before the first episode of season seven aired, fans stood a safe distance away, as always, hoping for a glimpse of a cast member. In interviews, some said they felt the show was so great, nothing could hurt it. Others hinted that if they didn’t like the first few episodes without “Leyton” (as Murray’s and Burton’s on-screen romantic couple were called), then they would find something else to watch on their Monday nights at home.
Those few episodes have come and gone. The show continues to be popular among The CW’s target audience of women, especially those 18 to 49. The total number of viewers averages about 2.5 million per episode.
Credit can be given to the writers and show creator Mark Schwahn for filling those holes with new characters who bring fresh scenarios to the plots. One new character, especially seems to be catching fans’ attention. And he gave the StarNews a call last week.
Robert Buckley stepped in this season as a brash young sports agent named Clay, who represents and is friends with Nathan, the basketballer played by longtime regular James Lafferty.
