'One Tree Hill' E.P. says Season 8 will be psycho-free... maybe

---

2010 5:22 AM ET one-tree-hill-james-joy-cw.jpgGood news, Naley fans! Over the last seven years of "One Tree Hill," a veritable parade of psychos have blown through town and done their best to break Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) and Nathan (James Lafferty) up.

Now, executive producer Mark Schwahn says the crazy train has ended. "I feel like we've done the psycho thing," he laughs. "We've had a lot of outsiders come in and try to mess with them, but I think that's over now. I'm a fan of seeing Nathan and Haley really focus on their family without all these outside forces."

After all, if the couple getting married in the middle of their junior year of high school and having kid number one on graduation day, they've proven that they can weather any storm. That said, with another baby on the way, plenty of challenges present themselves.

"Haley is in a fragile place emotionally when the season begins," Schwahn says, referring to Haley's mother's recent death and the fact that her sister is currently bleeding from a gunshot wound. "She's either going to fall apart or find strength in herself and strength in Nathan to pull through that." He hints that Haley's worries may even impact her pregnancy negatively.

Could Haley's pregnancy and their family crisis inspire Nate to ditch the NBA after everything he's been through? Schwahn isn't telling -- but he does promise that Nathan won't abandon basketball entirely. "It is important to his identity," Schwahn tells us. "It's in his blood."

Meanwhile, Nathan continues to struggle against his upbringing. "Nathan's journey right now is about being the father and the husband that [his father] Dan never was," Schwahn says. "He was raised one way, and he's trying to raise his son the opposite way."

If "One Tree Hill's" back nine episodes are picked up, Schwahn says we can expect to see Haley's baby born - though he won't give away whether she's having a girl or a boy. We love the idea of Nathan having a daughter, but there would also be something satisfying about the series beginning with the Scott brothers and ending with the new generation of Scott brothers.

By the way, just because Nathan and Haley are off the hook, don't toss your can of Tree Hill Psycho Repellent in the trash too quickly. Katie (Amanda Schull) is still on the loose. "She's still out there," Schwahn says. "Somewhere. I let her walk away for a reason."
