It's official: “One Tree Hill” renewed for season 8!

----

Wilmington-made "One Tree Hill" has been picked up for an eighth season. Thirteen new episodes have been ordered, according to EUE/Screen Gems vice president Bill Vassar. He received the call Tuesday.

Speculation has circulated for days about whether "One Tree Hill," which rents production offices and sound stages at EUE/Screen Gems' Wilmington campus, would be renewed for another season.

Ratings were lackluster for the CW's dramatic series last season, averaging about 2.3 million viewers per episode.

The show, however, continues to maintain its loyal fan base. In addition to local movements, such as a fan rally at "the river court," a set for the show near the Battleship North Carolina Memorial, and an OTH Fan Reunion and tour of Wilmington organized by a fan in Miami, a social media effort has spread across the world wide web.

Campaigns were launched on Twitter, Facebook and numerous blogs. On Twitter, @realonetreehill even showed twitvids of the cast members in Utah during the show's six week hiatus.

According to the Wilmington Regional Film Commission about 125 professional locals are employed on the set and the show pumps about $1 million per episode into the local economy.
