THR: CW picks up ‘Nikita,’ ‘Hellcats,’ ‘Life,’ ‘OTH’

The CW has renewed both its bubble shows — “Life Unexpected” and “One Tree Hill” — while picking up two new series for next season, “Hellcats” and “Nikita.”

“Nikita” will give the network its first non-supernatural action-drama. The Warner Bros/Wonderland series stars martial arts expert Maggie Q as an assassin who goes rogue. “Hellcats” is about a college cheerleading squad at a Southern university, and is from Bonanza/Warner Bros./CBS TV.

Though rumors had started last week that both veteran soap “OTH” and critically well-liked freshman drama “Unexpected” might get another round, the move is still a bit surprising, particularly in the case of “Unexpected,” which has garnered modest ratings.
