"Life Unexpected" has always embraced the singer-songwriter sound -- in fact, Zap2it chose their theme song as one of our current favorites.
Now, the CW series is stepping up their teen angst soundtrack with some heavy hitters: Sarah McLachlan and Ben Lee.
The artists aren't just licensing their famous tunes, though - they're making special guest appearances, and Zap2it caught an exclusive first look when we visited the show's gorgeous Vancouver set to watch the musicians film their concert scenes. McLachlan will perform her new single "Forgiveness," while Lee will rock out with one of our favorite songs from his album "Awake is the New Sleep."
In the October 12 episode, Cate (Shiri Appleby) and Ryan (Kerr Smith) host their radio station's Sugar Magnolia music festival with some very special guests. "One Tree Hill" characters Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) and Mia (Kate Voegele) will take the stage to perform some of their new music, but the line-up doesn't end there.
McLachlan and Lee, two of our all-time favorite singer-songwriters, will take the stage at the outdoor music festival attended by Lux (Britt Robertson), her friends, and of course her ever-present and ever-meddling parents... all three of them. We'll also hear Rain Perry perform "Beautiful Tree," the theme song we love so much.
During the festival, Cate will turn to Haley for advice when one of Cate's most personal secrets is made public. Haley and Cate will bond over their similar backgrounds, since they were both pregnant in high school (and both of their baby-daddies were bad-boy hotties named Nate).
McLachlan's appearance will make for a special moment for Haley -- long time fans of "One Tree Hill" will remember that the first time 16-year-old Haley sang for her now husband Nathan (James Lafferty) way back in the first season, she chose a McLachlan song. Now Haley is opening for one of her idols. You've come a long way, baby.
