Galeotti, Sweeney Form Everly and Sound the ‘Mission Bell’

Bethany Joy Galeotti: the name that radiates raw talent, the artist few recognize as a musical genius, the “One Tree Hill” actress who can steal the scene from any other just by walking on camera.

“One Tree Hill” viewers and fans of artists such as Tyler Hilton, Michelle Branch and more may know of Galeotti’s previous work. But her current adventure, the formation of a musical duo with her friend Amber Sweeney, should soon bring the music of Everly to new ears as the pair continues to gain a following of fans.

In 2008, Everly released an Extended Play set titled “Mission Bell.” The EP included three songs: the folk ballads “Home is Me, You are Mine” and “Stars,” and the bluesy “Little Children.”

With the sound of the EP, one would think Everly to be a new folk act. That’s just one side of the women.

When Galeotti, who plays Haley James Scott on “One Tree Hill,” sang songs in a 1940s-themed throwback episode, the duo released those songs as additional tracks on “Mission Bell.”

“Hotel Café” and its rewrite, “Karen’s Café,” bring the sounds of the big band era to life. “Mrs. Scott” and “Scheming Star” sound like classic jazz and Galeotti’s vocals fit perfectly in this style.

The duo showed another side of its sound in that episode.

But a third side of Everly emerged in 2009, an urban pop sound shined on the two singles “Quicksand” and “Maybe.”

Both songs served as cuts on Haley James Scott’s album on “One Tree Hill,” but more importantly, the songs proved Galeotti and Sweeney can take any song and make it one of their masterpieces.

While Galeotti sings lead most of the time, Sweeney also takes the lead in portions proving she can wail and let the emotion of the song escape through her voice.

Both however, harmonize better than any other duo in music today. Their voices complement each other so well.

More songs from Everly will likely be released on iTunes as the season of “One Tree Hill” continues and Galeotti’s character records an album.
